The Itinerary
A sneak peak of what you'll be learning over the course of the 7 day, 6 night programme, without giving away all the fun.
The 7-day program is structured around a powerful trilogy: Science, Story, and Community. You will be fully embedded with the BCSS research team, learning how to Dive for Purpose by observing and documenting their real-time monitoring of reefs and megafauna during dedicated dives. The technical focus is on mastering the narrative spectrum: from capturing high-value scientific ID shots to creating emotionally resonant conservation pieces, with workshops on tropical camera settings, lighting, animal behaviour, and post-production editing. Everything culminates in the creation of a polished, portfolio-ready visual story that transforms your raw footage into an effective tool for ocean advocacy and impact.
Phase 1: Immersion & Ethics (Day 1)
Your adventure begins with arrival and settling in, followed by a thorough welcome brief focused on safety and conservation ethics. You will immediately be introduced to the BCSS scientific team and the local research priorities, setting the stage for the week and teaching you how to look for the "story" in the "science."
Phase 2: Diving for Data & Craft (Days 2 - 5)
This is the core of the expedition. You will participate in two dedicated boat dives every day, actively diving alongside BCSS scientists to observe and document their monitoring work. Each afternoon includes intensive workshops where we hone your technical and narrative skills: covering everything from tropical camera settings and lighting techniques to understanding the nuances between scientific ID imagery and conservation photography.
Phase 3: Creation & Legacy (Days 6 - 7)
The final days are dedicated to synthesis. On Day 6, you will have your final "Story Dive," where you apply all the skills learned before moving into an intensive editing session. The day ends with a presentation evening where you share your unique, polished visual story. Day 7 offers a final sunrise swim and coffee, followed by a final debrief before departure, focused on how to use your new portfolio and continue advocating for the ocean.
